What new features would you like to see?

We will be expanding the site over the next few months, and have some exciting possibilities available to us thanks to our new CMS.  Some of these include:

  • Users pages - each user gets essentially their own web site at prorec.com/username - you can customize your pages, add a blog, post your media, use skins, etc.  So you not only get your own web site, but you are automatically affiliated with ProRec.
  • Audio Wiki - this has been tried before by some other folks, but I think the ProRec community might pull it off.  We would seed the Wiki with older ProRec articles, and then add to it with new articles and user contribution
  • Reader's Choice site - with a database of gear, users can rate the gear they prefer.  Each year, winning gear gets a Reader's Choice award.

What are your thoughts?  Come up with some cool ideas so that we can implement them here on ProRec.

Re: What new features would you like to see?

I like the idea of users pages.  I've been wanting to do a "real" web site for my studio.  It would be cool to have my studio site located at ProRec.  That would impress clients for use.

Can we upload HTML and Flash?  Or is it essentially a "pre-fab" site?  I would want customization.

Re: What new features would you like to see?

Why is it that from time to time on right sidebar where the latest Forum topics are shown, when I click on them...I will be taken to some commercial site (usually audio realted)...like a studio website, or some aoftware vendor's site...etc....instead of going to the topic?

Is that intentional or something's wrong with the web server....?

Re: What new features would you like to see?

I think the Wiki is a pretty cool idea. I wouldn't have too much use for a user page, but I suppose some might. The Reader's Choice site I think needs to have a much larger user base to be successful, but I could see where that might help bring in some search engine traffic as well.

One thing I think might be really cool would be a listening test  section, where you do a blind comparison of 3 different  takes on a sound with variations and poll listeners for the results. For instance, micing a guitar amp in 3 different positions, using 3 different mics for vocals, testing different preamps/compressors, etc. Of course you won't have scientific tests controlling for every variable, but I could see these being really useful for beginners. FLAC files would help cut down on file size without introducing lossy compression. And RMS levels could be matched to decrease the natural bias against quieter material.

Re: What new features would you like to see?

I can't reproduce this problem.  You're referring to the home page I assume.  The only thing I can imagine is that you're somehow clicking on the Google ads, which are displayed on the right sidebar.

Re: What new features would you like to see?

That might be the case...but I think the reason it happens is that sometimes, I click on one of the forum topic links...and the page just loads, and loads, and loads...and when it looks like it's not going to go to that page, I'll click on the link a second time, and it's probably catching one of the Google ads on the page that doesn't ever load...kinda' odd.
I never see the page come up with those ads...but yeah, the Google add do fall in the exact same spot as the Forum right sidebar....

I'll try to be more patient...
